When you think of the word "Dubai," the first thing that comes to your mind is gold towers, luxury cars, and prices that make your eyes water.
But yes, this Dubai does exist. But let me tell you this: there is another side to this city which most people don’t talk about.
The side where you can go shopping and get the best deals. Yes, you read that right.
There are places in this city which are actually affordable. So, I've put this little guide together to help you choose the best places in the city.
Cheapest Malls in Dubai
First off, the malls. Well, sometimes the need for AC, food, and a place to shop all at once hits.
These places have exactly what you expect without breaking the bank by paying your entire salary on their merchandise.
Dragon Mart
If there's any place in Dubai where I feel as though I'm stepping into a store literally built for budget shopping, it's Dragon Mart. This place is huge. Like, you might actually get lost in here.
It's just a huge hub for Chinese products. They have everything here. From furniture to electronics to clothing to toys, just random stuff you didn't know you needed until you saw it.
The prices are actually really low here. You can come in here with a little money and leave here with a lot.
It's also just a really cool place to just hang out. You can grab some food and just kinda walk around and look at all the chaos.
I think it's a great place to come with the family, too. The kids will go completely insane in the toy section.
- Location: Al Awir Road in International City, Dubai
- Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Friday – Saturday: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM
Dubai Outlet Mall
This one is a bit of a hidden gem, to be honest. Dubai Outlet Mall is all about getting your hands on branded products at discounted rates.
We're talking up to 90% discounts on international brands. While it's true that the discounts aren't always this steep, there are often some great deals to be had on clothing, footwear, accessories, and home furnishings from brands you actually know.
It's located a bit away from the city center, so it's not exactly the most convenient place to visit if you're just passing through.
However, if you're planning a day trip with your friends and family specifically for shopping, then it's worth all the trouble.
The atmosphere is very laid-back, it's never crowded, and it's just very satisfying to look for deals.
- Location: Dubai-Al Ain Road (Route 66), Al Lisaili.
- Hours: Sunday–Thursday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Friday–Saturday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM.
City Centre Deira
City Centre Deira is one of those classic Dubai malls that has stood the test of time. While it's certainly not a luxurious mall by any means, it's more of a practical place.
You will find a Carrefour here, as well as a range of mid-range fashion retailers and electronic stores.
If you're a family looking to hang out in a mall without burning a hole in your pocket, then this mall has a lot to offer.
There's entertainment for the young ones, decent food, and a range of stores to keep them occupied. Prices are reasonable, and the sales happen quite frequently.
- Location: 8th Street, Port Saeed, Deira.
- Hours: Monday–Thursday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Friday–Sunday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM.
BurJuman Mall
BurJuman is literally in the heart of old Dubai, which is great in terms of accessibility. It has a mix of affordable and slightly more upscale stores, with the affordable stores being there if you know where to look.
The lower floors have shops with really competitive pricing in terms of clothing, accessories, and everyday essentials.
It's also a great place to hang out because the food court is quite good, the mall is well-kept, and it's easy to get here via the metro. Good place to drop by if you're in the area anyway.
- Location: Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, Al Mankhool.
- Hours: Sunday–Thursday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Friday–Saturday: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM.
Wafi Mall
Wafi has this Egyptian theme going on in the architecture, and it has to be said, it looks more appealing than many other malls in Dubai.
However, aside from the visual appeal, the place actually offers some reasonably priced shopping options, especially plus size clothes from Big Boyz, during the sale season.
There’s also a souk adjacent to the Wafi City complex, i.e., the Khan Murjan souk.
Not the cheapest on the list, but during the sale season, it’s actually possible to find some amazing deals.
Worth checking out, especially if you’re looking for a different experience than the usual glass and chrome.
- Location: Oud Metha Road, Umm Hurair 2.
- Hours: Sunday–Thursday: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Friday–Saturday: 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM.
Al Karama Shopping Centre
Al Karama is slightly more local and low-key compared to the other malls, which is actually quite refreshing.
The mall itself is small, simple, and has plenty of stores with affordable clothing, electronics, accessories, and more.
The prices in this mall are significantly lower compared to the rest. The Karama district itself is the budget shopping haven in Dubai.
If you're in the mood for casual clothing, imitation goods, or just want to window shop without the judgmental looks from the more affluent crowds, then this is your place. The atmosphere here is super relaxed.
- Location: 18 B Street, Al Karama.
- Hours: Daily: 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM.
Cheapest Traditional Markets in Dubai
Now, this is where things get really interesting. The souks and traditional markets of Dubai offer an altogether different vibe compared to shopping malls, and as for the prices, they are often even better. The experience of just being there is worth it on its own.
Deira Gold Souk
The Gold Souk is iconic. Like, you've already seen pictures of the place. But yes, Dubai really is one of the cheapest places in the world to buy gold.
The emirate does not impose tax on the sale of gold, and the price is fixed in accordance with the international gold rate.
So if you're planning to buy jewelry, be it for a gift, for your wedding, or just because you want to treat yourself, this is the place to go.
The Gold Souk itself is an experience. The small alleys, the glittering gold in the windows of the shops, the vendors calling out to you. It's overwhelming in the best possible way.
- Location: Gold Corner Building, 3rd Floor, Al Dhagaya Street, Deira.
- Hours: Daily: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM (Many shops close briefly between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM).
Naif Souk
Naif Souk is one of those places that doesn’t get talked about enough in travel guides. It’s located right in Deira and has a plethora of extremely cheap clothing, fabric, shoes, perfumes, and other household items.
The whole place has a bustling and authentic market feel to it, which feels very real compared to the mall experience.
It is perfect for getting daily essentials in a price range that actually makes sense. If you’re on a tight budget and need a wardrobe overhauling without breaking the bank, Naif Souk is a must-visit.
- Location: Naif Street, Near Naif Police Station, Deira.
- Hours: Daily: 8:30 AM – 11:30 PM.
Meena Bazaar
Meena Bazaar is quite popular among South Asian shoppers in Dubai, and for good reason.
This is because Meena Bazaar is not just any other marketplace; it is an entire district filled with shops selling traditional wear, fabric, jewelry, cosmetics, etc.
The prices at Meena Bazaar are quite reasonable, and the options available are quite varied.
If you are looking for salwar kameez, sarees, lehengas, etc., then Meena Bazaar is perhaps the best place in Dubai to find these traditional wear items at the best prices.
This place is also home to some amazing eateries, so a day-long outing at Meena Bazaar with family can be quite an enjoyable experience.
- Location: Al Fahidi Street, Bur Dubai.
- Hours: Saturday–Thursday: 10:30 AM – 11:30 PM; Friday: 1:30 PM – 11:30 PM.
Karama Market
Karama Market, which is sometimes referred to as the Karama Shopping Complex, deserves special mention apart from the mall.
This is essentially Dubai's best spot for cheap shopping, especially for bags, clothes, accessories, etc. It is quite cheap, quite energetic, and quite good at bargaining.
This is a really fun place to visit, even just to window-shop. Go here with friends, enjoy the chaos, grab some food from somewhere, and just go wild about what deals you can find.
Just don't expect too much, because while some of what you can find here is genuine, some of it is just imitation, and that is what the place is like.
- Location: 18 B Street, Al Karama.
- Hours: Daily: 9:00 AM – 11:00 PM.
Best Areas in Dubai For Cheap Shopping
Aside from individual malls and markets, there are entire places in Dubai that are simply built for budget shopping:
Deira is probably the king of budget shopping in Dubai. The Gold Souk, the spice souk, Naif Souk, and countless other individual shops can all be found here.
It is also very easily accessed via the metro and has an old Dubai feel to it, which is very nice to experience.
Al Karama is another place in Dubai that is basically equivalent to cheap shopping. The area is lined with shops offering everything at competitive prices, and it has an excellent selection of food as well.
Meena Bazaar / Bur Dubai is great for cultural shopping without breaking the bank. It is connected to the Deira side via the famous abra (water taxi) crossing, which is actually quite an exciting experience.
What You Can Buy Cheap in Dubai?
Quite a lot, actually. Here’s a rough idea of what’s actually affordable here:

- Gold and Jewelry: As I mentioned, the Gold Souk is one of the best places in the world for gold shopping.
- Clothes and Textiles: Especially in the traditional souks or the Dragon Mart. Affordable clothing is quite accessible here.

- Spices and Food Items: The Spice Souk in Deira is one of the few places in the world where you can find such an enormous variety of spices at such reasonable rates.
