We start with Neeru's, located in the bustling Meena Bazaar. This store is one of the go-to's for most purchasers who look for traditional Indian and Indo-Western clothing. 

What I love about Neeru's is that their collection isn't all size but it has all style. They carry plus-size lehengas, salwar suits, party dresses and even by your luck mens can have 4XL for themselves, that are as unique as the petite ones. The sales assistants there were even helpful when I visited; they didn't bat an eyelash at me and tell me "oh, we don't carry your size" like you'll get at some other stores. No, instead they guided me through aisles of vibrant colors and even went to the back to get me extra sizes.

You must try going in the late morning on a weekday, around 11 AM, it’s the best time to avoid rush. You’ll get more personal attention.

Old Story Trading – Meena Bazaar

Next stop is Old Story Trading. Now, don’t let the name fool you, there’s nothing outdated about their collection. This shop is like a hidden gem for people who want elegant traditional wear for everyone at reasonable prices. 

Their strength lies in fitting a wide size range, with loose cuts that hug curves beautifully. During my visit, I found a pastel anarkali with embroidery that was surprisingly comfortable to wear and superly perfect for going to a family wedding without resembling a sack carrying 10 kilos of fabric.

Bargaining is included here too. A nice chat will earn you a better rate than aggressive bargaining.

Handloom House – Meena Bazaar

If you love the richness of hand-woven textiles, Handloom House will be heaven for you. This store sells traditional attire that's made using ancient weaves and techniques. Plus sizes are not an afterthought but a line of the collection here. 

You can buy some good cotton kurta from this house for a summer break, and not only it will fit perfectly, but it is also breathable and stylish enough for daily wear as well as for small gatherings.

The staff here are friendly, and that does make a significant difference if you like to try on a couple of different combinations before coming to a decision.

It’s less busy around lunch time, and you will have more room to window shop without having to elbow through the other customers.

Textile Souk – Bur Dubai

A visit to Bur Dubai isn't complete without walking through the Textile Souk. it’s located along the Creek, the souk is a maze of stores with fabrics in all hues, textures, and patterns one could imagine. 

While the souk is not about ready-to-wear garments but rather fabric, it's a paradise for plus-size consumers. Why? You can buy fabric by the meter and have it made up into your very size and fashion. Visit in mornings or early evenings to avoid the heat of the day. And remember to bring cash, with most of the smaller shops still accepting it.

I remember once selecting a royal blue silk fabric here, carrying it to a nearby tailor, and getting a beautiful salwar kameez made to fit me to perfection.

Wonder Range – Meena Bazaar

It’s another Meena Bazaar outlet you should include in your listings. They have an amazing range of sarees, lehengas, and kurtas for curvier bodies. Where they really shine is on price, you won't need to rob a bank to walk out looking gorgeous. Plus, when it comes to men they offer some tremendous fabric that is breathable yet comfortable to wear. 

The store is bustling and lively, but the staff is informative. If you tell them your size and your choice of style, they will be able to dress you up in no time. 

Deepam Silks – Bur Dubai

If your fashion sense is all about luxury, then Deepam Silks at Bur Dubai will treat you to it. Their collection of silk sarees and traditional attire is just stunning. And yes, plus sizes are available too, mostly in salwar suits and stitched blouses. You can visit them during the wedding season, and let me tell you, colors and work here are just unbeatable.

Of course, they treats men’s traditional wear too but Deepam is expensive, but if you want an heirloom-quality piece, and you want to hold on to it for years, then it's worth spending more on.

A cherry on top, if you wanna have a classic or unique piece from it then you must go there during the festive season (Diwali, Eid, or wedding season). They have special collections that they don't bring out at other times of the year.

Pothys – Meena Bazaar

Pothys is one of those stores that make you go giddy like a child in a candy shop, only instead of candies, racks of sarees and traditional attire. They have their plus-size collection well-stocked for both genders, with everything from party wear lehengas to daily wear kurtas. The last time I visited, I visited "just to browse" and ended up taking out two sarees and a kurta set, so be warned, it's hard to resist bringing something home.
